Twitter shuts its RSS feeds

Twitter has discontinued use of RSS.

As was foreshadowed, social media website Twitter have upgraded their API to REST v.1.1 and have, in the process, closed all support for RSS and ATOM feeds with the discontinuation of API v.1. The RSS feeds were closed last weekend.

This means that the advice previously posted about determining Twitter RSS feed addresses is now redundant.

RSS has been in perceived decline for some time, possibly accelerated by Google’s announcement that Google Reader will be discontinued. That said, persistent rumours abound that Facebook will launch its own reader soon. Twitter have no plans to reinstate RSS.
