Resetting zoomed icons, tabs and address bars in Firefox 22

How to undo changes to the zoomed menu items in Mozilla Firefox 22.

With the release of Firefox 22, some Windows users will have found that Firefox’s icons, tabs and address bar have become peculiarly enlarged as well as the general display of websites.

Whilst pressing Ctrl + 0 will restore the web page zoom to normal, this setting will not be maintained when new tabs are opened. This is because Firefox 22 is calibrated to the pixel density set in Microsoft Windows Control Panel.

To restore the settings from Firefox 21, complete the following steps:

Step 1:

Type “about:config” into the address bar, and accept the following warning.

Step 2:

Scroll down to “layout.css.devPixelsPerPx” and double click.

Step 3:

In the box, replace “-1.0” with “1.0” and close the box.

Mozilla Firefox should now display correctly.

If not, adjust the number until the menu items are the correct size. Do be careful as a minor change will cause a substantial difference.

If websites are now appearing too small or large, go to the menu and click View > Zoom > Reset.
